ISSUE: 08/94-0498
CODE: 441
Subject:
Modified Tightening Torque, Automatic Transmissions
Application:
1994 900 Models
The tightening torque for the bolts that hold the drive plate and the torque converter together have been changed and are different for 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines. In addition, the tightening torques given for the transmission range switch are incorrect in certain service manuals.
Cars Affected:
1994 900 models with automatic transmissions
Action:
Service manuals should be changed as follows:
1. Page 024-4 in Service Manual 4:2 "Automatic Transmission":
Torque converter/actuator
4 cylinder 60 N-m (44 ft.lb.) M10.
6 cylinder 30 N-m (22 ft.lb.) M8.
Transmission range switch/transmission (bolt) 25 N-m (18.5 ft.lb.).
Lever/transmission range switch 25 N-m (18.5 ft.lb.).
2. Add the following text to page 024-4:
Tightening torque
60 N-m (44 ft.lb.) 4 cylinder.
30 N-m (22 ft.lb.) 6 cylinder.
3. Page 442-7 in Service Manual 4:2 "Automatic Transmission":
2 Refit the transmission range switch's nut.
Tightening torque 8 N-m (6 ft.lb.).
3 Screw in the lever and move the selector lever to position N.
Tightening torque 25 N-m (18.5 ft.lb.).
4 Tighten the sensor with the screw(s) so that the arrow on the lever corresponds to the marking on the transmission range switch.
Tightening torque 25 N-m (18.5 ft.lb.).
Check that the engine starts with the selector lever in positions P and N, and that the reversing light only goes on in position R.
