Operation Options

The Aisin-Warner 50-40LE automatic transaxle is electronically-controlled with 4 speeds. The transaxle is controlled by a Transaxle Control Module (TCM), which is fed with digital and analog signals. The TCM uses this information to control the transaxle hydraulic system by means of electronic control signals.
These transaxles have many advantages compared to conventional hydraulically-controlled transaxles. These transaxles have better quality of gear shifting and softer gear shifting since torque is reduced during gear shifting. The driving program is designed to optimize fuel consumption. The driver can choose from NORMAL, SPORT OR WINTER driving programs for optimum performance. There is also reduced mechanical stresses on the entire transaxle and it has the ability of self-diagnosis and to store diagnostic codes.

SPORT SWITCH
A spring-loaded switch in the selector knob allows the driver to switch between NORMAL and SPORT gear shifting programs. NORMAL is always connected from the start. The SPORT program means the transaxle stays longer in each gear than normal and the gear shifting points are adapted for performance.
When the SPORT program is selected, the SPORT indicator lamp comes on in the main instrument.

WINTER SWITCH
A spring-loaded switch in the selector lever's console enables the driver to select the WINTER gear shifting program. This aids the vehicle when starting on slippery roads. When activated, the transaxle is automatically prevented from engaging in first and second gears. The vehicle is started in third gear.
