Checking For Short-Circuit to Ground
Testing Methods: Checking For short-circuit To Ground:
1. Hold the ohmmeter leads in contact with each other and adjust the instrument until a reading of 0 ohms is obtained.
2. Disconnect the load and the negative battery cable.
3. Connect one of the ohmmeter leads to the short-circuited cable's connection.
4. Connect the other lead to a good grounding point on the car.
5. Jiggle the relevant wiring harness while observing the ohmmeter.
If the ohmmeter shows infinite resistance "OL" (infinity), there is no short circuit.
On the other hand, if it shows low resistance or none at all, this indicates that the cable is short-circuited to ground.
