Electronic Antifrost Thermostat - Installation

Electronic Antifrost Thermostat

Application:
1994- 900 Models

A new electronic antifrost thermostat was introduced into 900 production as of VIN Serial No. T2037750 and T7010027. This new thermostat has improved functionality and will ensure more reliable antifrost thermostat operation.





When replacing the thermostat on a 1994 and later 900, please follow the directions below to install this new style part.

Cars Affected:

1994- 900 Models

Parts:

Electronic antifrost thermostat 46 35 231 (all)

Adapter cable assembly 46 35 785 (for new installation only: below VIN T2037750 and T701 0027) Seal 47 58 439 (all).





Action:

To remove

32. Remove the glovebox.

33. Remove the center console's side panel.

34. Remove the knee shield.

35. Remove the floor duct.

36. Remove the air duct leading to the right side vent on the dashboard.

37. On cars with automatic transmission:

k. Detach the transmission control module from the bracket on the bulkhead and let it hang by its wiring.

l. Remove the bracket.

38. Unplug the dashboard wiring. Open the cable ties and bend the wiring aside.

39. Fold back the carpet and remove the protective cover.

40. Remove the screws securing the fan control unit (cars with ACC).

41. Undo the nut securing the antifrost thermostat and remove the evaporator casing cover from the climate control unit. Take care to prevent the recirculation motor from dropping out of its bracket. The clips can be broken off to facilitate removal. The evaporator casing cover must be screwed firmly in place when refitted.

42. Unplug the electrical connectors and remove the antifrost thermostat.

To fit

1. If necessary, clean the low pressure pipe with benzene to remove a residual sealing compound.








2. Connect the antifrost thermostat's sensor to the low pressure pipe by means of the clip. Turn the clip as shown so that it does not rest against the evaporator casing cover.

Important
Use no sealing compound.

3. Snap the new antifrost thermostat in place on the evaporator casing cover.

Cars with VIN Serial Numbers up to T2000001 and T7000001:

Fit adapter cable assembly, P/N 46 35 785. Plug the 4-pin connector into the antifrost thermostat and connect the green lead to the green lead in the car's wiring harness. Connect the white lead to the green/grey or white lead in the car's wiring harness. Connect the ground cable to G34S. Secure the wiring harness with cable ties.

Cars with VIN Serial Numbers from T2000002 to T2037750 and T7000002-T7010027 inclusive: Connect the car's existing wiring harness to the antifrost thermostat.

4. Fit a new seal, P/N 47 58 439, between the evaporator casing cover and the climate control unit. Refit the evaporator casing cover on the climate control unit and tighten the screws. Make sure that no condensate leaks out of the evaporator.

5. Check that the compressor cycles. Proceed as follows:

^ ACC:

Set the temperature to 68°F (20°C) and select a low fan speed.

^ Manual control panel:

Set the temperature control to medium with the AC button depressed and the fan control in position 1.

6. Refit the fan control unit and tighten the screws (cars with ACC).

7. Refit the protective cover.

8. Reconnect the dashboard wiring. Secure the wiring with cable ties.

9. Cars with automatic transmission:

a. Screw the bracket for the transmission control module to the bulkhead.

b. Secure the control module to the bracket.

10. Refit the air duct leading to the dashboard side vent.

11. Fit the floor air duct back in place.

12. Refit the knee shield and tighten the retaining screws.

13. Refit the center console's side panel.

14. Fit the glovebox in place and tighten the screws.
