For Automatic Transmission Equipped Vehicles

A. Unscrew the hub nut

B. Tap out the drive shaft from the hub using a rubber hammer.

C. Hold out the MacPherson strut and pull out the drive shaft. Place a tray under the car to catch any oil spills.

D. Use special tool, P/N 89 96 654 to remove the universal joint from the gearbox.

E. Remove the iron vibration damper (if fitted).

F. Make sure that the shaft boots are clean. Clamp the drive shaft in a vise.

G. Undo the outer universal joint clamps and push the rubber boot a short way up the shaft.

H. Degrease the universal joint. Mark the universal joint's orientation on the shaft for easy installation.

I. Spread the retaining ring and tap the universal joint from the shaft using a hammer and a brass punch.

J. Detach the rubber boot.

K. Place the drive shaft in a press and lubricate it and the rubber weight, P/N 46 45 594 using soapy water.





L. Press the rubber weight on to the correct position: 34 +/-2 mm from the lower groove (see Figure 5.) Use special tools, P/N 87 91 972 and 87 91 204.

M. Fill the universal joint with CV joint grease, P/N 02 70 025.

N. Fit the rubber boot on the drive shaft.

O. Place the drive shaft in a vise and press in the universal joint on to its original location.

P. Place the rubber boot in the correct position and fit new clamps, P/N 41 95 822.

Q. Place the inner universal joint in the gearbox attachment. Using a rubber hammer, carefully tap the outer universal joint so that the drive shaft is locked in position.

R. Hold out the MacPherson strut and place the drive shaft in the hub.

S. Fit a new hub nut, P/N 89 65 360.. Tighten with the car standing on the ground.

T. Tightening torque: 290 Nm (214 ft.lbs.)

U. Fill with transmission fluid.

V. Proceed to step 20.
