A Service Kit has been developed to address a customer complaint of engine vibration in Drive at idle. Follow the instructions listed herein to rectify the complaint.
Cars Affected:
1994-95 900 models with 4 cylinder engines and automatic transmission
Parts:
Service Kit 89 94 113
This Kit consists of parts listed for individual procedures. It does contain supplies or tools.
NOTE:
Kit also contains some reinforcement plates that are not used in this procedure.
Supplies:
Anti-corrosion agent
Primer
Touch-Up Paint
Sealant
Cleaner such as Teroson, P/N 30 15 815
Tools:
9/64" (3.5mm) drill bit
Action:
1. Test drive the car with the customer to verify the complaint. This should be done to determine whether the customer's complaint concerns engine idling.
2. Carry out the various measures as indicated in the following pages of this bulletin:
^ Fit stops for the tailgate
^ Change the engine mounts
^ Change the generator (alternator) voltage regulator
^ Fit the radiator fan adapter wiring harness
Fitting Tailgate Stops:
Parts:
Two (2) Rubber stops In parts kit
Two (2) brackets In parts kit
Six (6) Pop rivets In parts kit
2 strips of paint protector tape
9/64" (3.5mm) Drill
Anti-corrosion agent
Paint sealant
Touch-up paint (same as car)
Procedure:
1. Adjust the tailgate so that it rests on the regular stops.
2. Bend the brackets as shown in Figure 2, item 2. Bend them at a right angle along broken line A so that they can stand on a flat surface as shown in item B in Figure 2. Paint the brackets the same color as the car.
3. Remove the corner panels under the rear light clusters on both sides.
4. Hold the bracket in position on the sheet metal joint so that it butts up against the edge of the sheet metal at point C in Figure 2 and the lower corner of the scuff plate at point D as indicated in Figure 2. Mark the positions of the holes.
5. Drill the holes as marked, using a 9/64" (3.5mm) drill bit.
6. Remove any burrs and clean the holes with Teroson cleaner, P/N 30 15 815 or equivalent.
7. Apply primer.
8. Apply finish paint.
9. Apply paint sealant to internal surfaces.
10. Fix the bracket in place with pop rivets.
11. Clean the area on the tailgate which will rest against the rubber stops and affix paint protector tape in place.
12. Adjust the stops as follows:
a. Screw in the stops as far as they will go.
b. Close the tailgate. Place a piece of paper between the stop and tailgate.
c. Unscrew the rubber stops until they just hold the paper.
d. Remove the paper and then unscrew the stops another 1/4 turn.
NOTE:
The tailgate should rest evenly on all four stops.
13. Fit the corner panels.
Changing the Engine Mounts:
Parts:
Engine mount, front right
Engine mount, front left
Engine mount, rear
Procedure:
Change the front engine mounts as described in Service Manual 2:1 Basic Engine B206/B234/B204, page 201-12. Change the rear engine mount as follows.
Use these instructions as a general guide but observe the following points:
1. Use the engine lifting beam to support and raise the engine.
2. Do not remove the engine subframe or the exhaust system. It will not normally be necessary.
3. To remove the rear mount fasteners, top and bottom, take the weight off of the rear mounting using the engine lifting beam. Remove the 3 bolts that secure the rear mounting bracket to the gearbox. Remove the rear mount and bracket from the car as an assembly.
4. Install the new mount and the bracket as an assembly. Install and tighten the gearbox bracket bolts first.
5. Remove the left front mount from the car.
Changing the Engine Mounts continued
1. Raise the car and undo the nuts securing the engine mount to the subframe.
2. Position a jack under the engine and raise the engine slightly or use the engine lifting beam.
3. Remove the bracket with the rear engine mount from the transmission.
4. Change the engine mount.
Tightening torque: 39Nm (29 ft.lbs.)
5. Fit the bracket with engine mount on the transmission.
Tightening torque: 47Nm (35 ft.lb.)
6. Lower the engine and tighten the nuts securing the engine mount to the subframe.
Tightening torque: 39Nm (29 ft.lbs.)
Replacing Generator (Alternator) Voltage Regulator:
Parts:
Generator Voltage Regulator
Procedure:
Change the generator voltage regulator. See Service Manual 3:1 Electrical system, page 321-14.
Fitting Radiator Fan Control Adapter Harness:

2. Unplug the pressure switch connector.
3. Connect the adapter wiring harness between the pressure switch connector and the regular wiring harness connector. Run the adapter wiring harness behind the receiver. See Figure 6.
4. Fix the adapter wiring harness to the receiver in such a way that it cannot move and make a noise. Also make sure that connectors and leads do not come into contact with the condenser.
5. Fit the front grille onto the two locating pins which secure it at the bottom and press it down onto the two clips which secure it at the top.
6. Close the hood.
