Action:
Heated Rear Window:
1. Remove the mercury switch and cut the leads at the switch housing.
Strip the ends of the leads and join them by clamping them together in cable terminal, P/N 95 52 126.
Insulate the cable terminal with 30-40mm of shrink tubing. Bend the leads down and attach them in the clip above the connector.
IMPORTANT:
Without the mercury switch installed, the heated rear window may be activated even when the top is lowered and there is a risk that the top fabric can be damaged by the heating element in the rear window.
On cars without a time delay relay for the heated rear window, the standard relay must be replaced by a time relay that automatically turns off the heated rear window 10-15 minutes after activation.
2. Release and raise the rear seat so that the rear main fuse box is accessible. Replace standard relay P/N 85 22 310 at relay position B with time relay P/N 95 19 133.
3. Remove dashboard switch P/N 95 23 721 and replace it with dashboard switch P/N 95 23 820 for the time relay.
4. Check that the heated rear window operates properly and that the time relay turns off the current 10-15 minutes after activation.
