SUBJECT:
TURBO AIR BY-PASS VALVE
APPLICATI0N:
900 AND 9000 TURBOS
In early-1989 production, a new design turbo air by-pass valve was introduced on 9000 Turbo models. The new valve (Figure 1) contains a recalibrated spring which helps reduce the effect of pressure surges that can occur in the induction system. The pressure surges can cause "jerky" deceleration and/or a hooting noise.
Turbo Air By-Pass Valve P/N 89 81 904
This valve was introduced in 9000 Turbo production beginning with Vehicle Identification Numbers K1005233 and K2002494. This valve is also a suitable replacement part for 1986 to early-1989 9000 models when repairing a complaint of jerky deceleration or hooting noise.
NOTE:
Valve 89 81 904 MUST NOT be used on 900 Turbo models. Turbo air by-pass valve 93 90 022 should continue to be used on 900 Turbos.
Some early-1989 900 Turbo models were incorrectly fitted with the 9000- specification air by-pass valve. When correcting a complaint of a "hooting" noise in an early-1989 900 Turbo, install air by-pass valve 93 90 022.
