Throttle Body: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
The throttle body houses the throttle valve which controls the amount of air flowing into the combustion chamber. The driver regulates the throttle valve opening with the accelerator pedal which is connected via a cable to the throttle valve.

OPERATION
When the throttle valve is closed, the engine receives only a small amount of air and fuel. Therefore engine power output is very limited. The more the throttle valve is opened, the larger the amount of air and fuel that flows into the combustion chamber, thus increasing engine power output.

For proper operation, the throttle body must be adjusted correctly.
