Checking of Operation, Boost Control

CHECKING OF OPERATION, BOOST PRESSURE CONTROL

1. Check fuse 24.

- If the fuse is blown, do not insert a new one but go to point 6.

2. Check the three regulating hoses of the valve are OK and correctly connected.

3. Ignition switched ON.

- Check that the valve receives a +54 supply by connecting the test lamp between the valve's connector, pin 2 and ground.

The lamp must then light up.

- If the lamp does not light up, check the lead between pin 2 and fuse 24.

4. Apply the handbrake.

- Put the gear lever/selector lever in the N/P position.
- Start the engine, switch OFF AC/ACC and allow the engine speed to stabilize below 1000 rpm.
- Connect the test lamp between pins 2 and 3.

The lamp must then light up.

- Increase the engine speed to just over 1000 rpm.

The lamp must then shine considerably less brightly.

- If the lamp does not light up with a steady glow regardless of whether the engine speed is below or above 1000 rpm, check the lead between pin 3 and pin 2 on the ECM for discontinuity/shorting.
- If the lead is OK, continue at "Procedure before replacing ECM".

5. Connect the test lamp between pins 2 and 1.

When the speed is below 1000 rpm, the lamp must go out.

- Increase the engine speed to just over 1000 rpm.

The lamp must then come on.

- If the lamp does not light up or lights up with a steady glow, regardless of whether the engine speed is below or above 1000 rpm, check the lead between pin 1 and pin 26 of the ECM for discontinuity/shorting.
- If the lead is OK, continue at "Procedure before replacing ECM".

6. Measure the resistance of the valve between pins 2 and 3 and between pins 2 and 1. The value in both cases must be 3 ± 1 Ohms.

- If the value is incorrect, install a new valve.
- If necessary, then replace fuse 24.

7. Disconnect the valve and check visually that its ports are not obstructed.

- It so, install a new valve.

8. Connect the valve's connector.

- Start the engine and allow engine speed to stabilize below 1000 rpm.
- Blow into connection W to establish that only connections W and C are joined.
- Increase engine speed to just over 1000 rpm.
- Blow into connection W to establish that only connections W and R are joined.
- If the result of the above test is incorrect, install a new valve.

9. Stop the engine.

- Check by blowing into hoses R and C that they are clear of obstructions.
- Connect a pressure/vacuum pump to the hose marked W.
- Generate a positive pressure.

The regulating bar of the wastegate must start to move at 0.40 - 0.45 bar and the membrane housing unit must be pressure-tight.
