Wipe and Wash
When the windshield wiper stalk switch or the rear window wiper switch is set for washing, power is supplied to the headlamp wiper motor (not in the case of rear window washing), Integrated Central Electronics (ICE) module pins 38 (windshield) and 15 (rear window), and also to the washer pump.
The ICE module grounds the two intermittent operation relays via pins 59 (windshield) and 7 (rear window).
The ICE module grounds the windshield wiper relay directly and the wipers start at once. In regard to the rear window washer, however, the ICE module grounds the relay after a certain delay. This is because it takes a little longer for the washer fluid to spread out on the rear window.
Windshield
At the end of the washing period, the ICE module grounds the relays for an additional 5 seconds.
After a delay of 8 seconds the ICE module grounds the windshield wiper relay for 0.5 seconds, causing the wipers to make an extra sweep of the windshield.
This extra sweep cycle (to and fro) can be programmed on/off by means of the Intellegant Saab Tester (ISAT) scan tool.
Rear window
At the end of the washing period the Integrated Central Electronics (ICE) module waits for 16 seconds and then grounds the rear window wiper relay for 0.5 seconds to activate an extra sweep of the rear window wiper.
When the rear window washer is activated, the washer pump changes polarity.
