General System Description
PURPOSESaab Trionic is an engine management system which controls ignition, fuel injection and boost pressure from a single engine control module.
Saab Trionic is introduced on SAAB 900 cars with the B204L engine beginning with model year 1994 1/2.
Trionic has been developed by Saab and has great potential for development.
CONSTRUCTION
The Saab Trionic ignition system consists of an [1][2]ignition discharge module with four coils, one for each spark plug.
OPERATION
The ignition system is capacitive. The spark plugs are used as sensors to detect combustion and knocking. This means that no camshaft position sensors or knock sensors are required.
Fuel injection is sequential and is governed by the pressure in the intake manifold.
Boost pressure is controlled by a solenoid valve which is connected to the turbo wastegate.
