Electrically Heated Rear Seat

1 Check that the fuses for the electrically heated rear seat are intact and live.
2 Plug in the Intelligent Saab Tester (ISAT) scan tool and select "READ FAULT CODES" from the menu. If any diagnostic trouble codes are present, continue in Trouble Code Tables.
3 Select "READ SWITCHES" from the menu and then "REAR SEAT HEATER". Read the ISAT scan tool display.
Switch activated --> "ON"
Switch not activated --> "OFF"
If this is the case, go to point 8.
4 If it is not, check the power supplied to the switch by taking a reading between pin 3 of the switch connector and a good grounding point.
A reading of about 12 V should be obtained.
5 If it is not, check the wiring between the fuse and pin 3 of the switch for continuity/shorting.
6 Connect a jumper lead between pins 2 and 3 of the switch connector and repeat point 3.
If this produces satisfactory results, the fault is in the switch. Change the switch.

7 If it does not, connect a BOB and check the lead for continuity/shorting by taking a reading between ICE module pin 43 and switch connector pin 2.
8 Check the heating elements as follows:
- A 12 V supply should be present between pin 1 of the connector for the heating elements and a good grounding point.
- The resistance across pin 2 of the connector for the heating elements and a good grounding point should be < 1 ohm.
9 If the readings obtained in point 8 are not OK, check the wiring between the relay and the heating elements for continuity/shorting.
10 If the readings obtained in point 8 are OK, the fault is in the heating element. Change the heating element.
