DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
Manual Gearbox
Current is supplied from fuse 31 to reversing light switch 31. The switch closes when reverse gear is selected, lighting the lamps.
Automatic Transmission
Current is supplied from fuse 9 to reversing light switch 31 located on selector lever position sensor 239. The contacts in the switch close when reverse gear is selected, lighting the lamps.
Side Reversing Lights
Cars for certain markets incorporate side reversing lights 119 in the front light clusters. These lights are then supplied with current via relay 405. The relay coil is supplied with current via the reversing-lights switch.
FAULT DIAGNOSIS HINTS
The reversing lights are switched on when reverse gear is engaged and the ignition switch is in the Drive position.
1. Check that fuses 9 and 31 are intact and supplied with current.
2. Check that current is present on the connections of the reversing lights switch.
3. Check that the bulbs are intact and supplied with current.
4. Check the connectors, wiring harness and ground connections.
