Timing Chain Tensioner: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove the inlet hose and the resonator.
2. Turn the crankshaft to the 0° mark and remove the plug.
3. Take out the locating pin and spring.
4. Remove the chain tensioner.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:
^ New chain tensioners come with the spring under tension.
^ Be careful not to remove the pin before the chain tensioner has been fitted in place on the engine.
1. Prepare a used chain tensioner for fitting by pressing down the catch and pushing in the chain tensioner.
2. Install the chain tensioner, using a 27 mm socket, then tighten to: 63 Nm (47 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the plug for the chain tensioner with push rod and spring, then tighten to: 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
NOTE: As the plug is screwed in, the spring pushes the tensioning arm out and so tightens the chain.
4. Install the resonator and the inlet hose.
