DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
There are three different versions of the SID unit in the dashboard, one for main instrument display panel and two for main instrument display panel 2 (with/ without trip computer).
SID unit 1 incorporates:
^ Clock (analogue)
^ Outside temperature sensor
^ Light sensor (option)
^ Audio display (option) SID unit 2 incorporates:
^ Clock (analogue)
^ Outside temperature display
^ Light sensor
^ Audio display
^ CHECK functions
^ BLACK PANEL function
^ Trip computer SID unit 3 incorporates:
^ Clock (analogue and digital)
^ Outside temperature display
^ Light sensor
^ Audio display
^ CHECK functions
^ BLACK PANEL function
^ Trip computer (advanced)
Clock (Analogue)
All three versions of the SID unit incorporate an analogue clock.
The clock is set by means of the two buttons immediately below it. One of the buttons has a (+) function for putting the clock forward, the other has a (-) function for putting the clock back.
Clock (Digital)
The digital clock in SID unit 3 is used by the trip computer for calculating the time of arrival and for time alarms.
Every time the analogue clock is adjusted, the digital clock will also be adjusted by the same amount (provided that the clocks have been synchronized).
The digital clock appears in the display during adjustment.
Outside Temperature Display
Information on the prevailing outside temperature is provided in all three versions. The information comes from outside temperature sensor 286 behind the front spoiler.
Light Sensor
The light sensor, located diagonally above the clock, control the instrument and display lighting in the main instrument display panel, the ACC and the SID unit's own display in the daytime.
At night, the lighting is control by means of rheostat 16.
Audio Display
The audio system used the SID unit's display for radio, cassette player and CD displays.
When the radio, cassette player or CD player is turned on, the appropriate information will automatically appear on the SID unit's display.
If a CHECK message is activated, the audio display will be replaced by the CHECK message and an acoustic signal will sound at the same time.
CHECK Functions
Should one or more CHECK functions become active, all the other displays disappear except the audio indicator at the bottom. The message appears in the two lines of the display at the same time as a buzzer sounds and the INFO DISPL lamp lights up in main instrument display panel 2.
The SID unit's display shows the relevant function and if preceded by a plus (+) sign, more than one function is active.
If more than one function is indicated as being active, they will be displayed in the following order of priority:
^ TEST BRAKE LIGHTS
^ BRAKE LIGHTS FAILURE
^ FRONT LIGHTS FAILURE
^ REAR LIGHTS FAILURE
^ CHECK FAN BELT
^ WASHER FLUID LEVEL LOW
^ COOLANT LEVEL LOW
^ TIME FOR SERVICE After a CHECK function has become active the driver must confirm that the message has been received, as follows:
^ acknowledging with the action indicated in the text for the three top-priority messages
^ pressing any button except the BLACK PANEL button for other messages.
After confirmation, the CHECK function will not be shown until the ignition is switched off and on again.
Units and languages
The SID unit contains four different combinations of units:
^ Liter/100 km + °C
^ miles/gallon (imp.) + °F
^ miles/gallon (imp.) + °C
^ miles/gallon (US) + °F
The side instrument contains six different languages:
^ Swedish
^ English
^ German
^ French
^ Italian
^ Spanish
SID unit 2: Press the "INFO" and "CLEAR" buttons simultaneously for more than 2 seconds to enter the unit and language mode.
Use the INFO button to change the units and the CLEAR button to change the language.
To finish, wait for more than five seconds after the last selection or switch off the ignition.
Sid unit 3: Press the "CLEAR" and "SET" buttons simultaneously for more than 2 seconds to enter the unit and language mode.
Use the (-) button to change the units and the (+) button to change the language.
To finish, acknowledge the change with the SET button, wait for more than five seconds after the last selection or switch off the ignition.
Sounds
The SID unit generates different types of sound for different functions.
The different functions are:
^ Warning
^ Time alarm (SID unit 3)
^ Speed warning (SID unit 3)
^ Reminder (warning, ignition key and seat-belt)
^ Confirmation (after pressing button)
^ Direction indicators (TICK TACK)
BLACK PANEL
Instrument lighting is dimmed by pressing the BLACK PANEL button.
The SID unit's display lights up only if a CHECK function is activated and then remains alight for 10 seconds, after which it goes out.
If the driver acknowledges the message, the display will go out immediately unless the BLACK PANEL button is pressed again.
The SID unit also lights up if any trip computer button is pressed and then remains alight for 10 seconds after the last button was pressed.
If any of the audio unit's buttons is pressed, the display will light up and then remain alight for 5 seconds after the last button was pressed.
Trip Computer
The trip computer has the following functions: (left-hand side <)
^ TEMP (outside temperature).
^ D.T.E (distance on remaining fuel).
^ FUEL @ (average fuel consumption).
^ Alarm (time alarm, SID unit 3 only). (right-hand side >)
