DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
The electrically adjustable front seats consist of:
^ Switches for manual seat adjustment.
^ Relay for operation of the driver's and passenger's seats with the door open and/or the ignition switch in the Drive position.
^ Four electric motors.
Switch Unit
The switch unit consists of a number of switches which supply the motors with current.
Relay
At the front of the driver's seat is a relay which enables the driver's seat to be adjusted when a door is open and/or when the ignition switch is in the Drive position.
When the driver's door is opened, pins 44 and 67 of the ICE control module are grounded and the ICE control module in turn grounds the operating coil of relay 446.
Current (+30 circuit) is supplied to relay 446 and then relay 447 via fuse 16 (driver's seat) and fuse 5 (passenger's seat). When the ICE control module grounds the relay because a door is open or the ignition switch is in the Drive position, the motors and switches are supplied with current.
Manual Seat Adjustment
Only two motors can be run at the same time. If more than two motors are activated simultaneously, all the motors will stop.
Fore-and-after adjustment of the seat and inclination of the seat cushion are limited by mechanical stops.
The backrest has no mechanical stop to limit its rake in either direction.
FAULT DIAGNOSIS HINTS
Electrical adjustment of the seats will be operative when any door is open or if the ignition switch is in the Drive position.
1. Check that fuse 16 (driver's seat) and fuse 5 (passenger's seat) are intact and supplied with current.
2. Check that current is present on switches 357 and 358.
3. Check that current is supplied to the motors by activating the corresponding switches.
4. Check the connectors, wiring harness and ground connections.
