DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
Current is supplied via fuse 4 to luggage compartment lamp 55 and then to switch 56.

When the tailgate is opened, the switch completes the circuit to ground and the lamp lights up.

The luggage compartment lamp can be switched off manually by means of the switch in the lighting unit.

If the car is fitted with an anti-theft alarm, this makes use of the tailgate switch to monitor the luggage compartment.

FAULT DIAGNOSIS HINTS
1. Check that fuse 4 is intact and supplied with current.
2. Check that the bulb is OK and supplied with current.
3. Check that the switch works satisfactorily and also that the tailgate switch is in proper working order.
4. Check the connectors, wiring and ground connections.
