Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair






Removal
1. Lift the car and remove the rear wheels.
2. Remove the two left-hand fixing nuts from the center heat shield.
3. Remove the three securing bolts from the rear heat shield.
4. Measure the length of the protruding part of the pull rod from the adjusting nut to the end.
5. Remove the adjusting nut.
6. Undo the left-hand tank strap.
7. Unhook the bracket from the tank strap.





8. Remove the springs from the levers.
9. Undo the rear cable guide sleeves and disconnect the cables from the levers.
10. Pull the cables out of the holes on the rear axle.
11. Loosen the right-hand cable from the bracket under the rear heat shield.
12. Remove the cables from the bracket behind the cable adjuster.
13 Cut off the tie that holds the cable under the heat shield.
14. Pull out the cables.





Installation
1. Position the cables, pull forwards and connect them to the front brackets.
2. Fasten a new tie to the cables under the heat shield.
3. Install the cables to the rear guide sleeves and the levers.
4. Install the springs to the levers.
5. Install the pull rod adjustment nut to the previously measured thread length.
6. Pull the tank strap tight.





7. Lower the car and set the handbrake to the 2nd notch.
8. Lift the car and tighten the pull rod adjusting nut until the brakes start to act.
9. Lower the car, release the handbrake and then operate it again. The wheels should lock at the 6th notch.
10. Lift the car and fasten the center heat shield.
11. Fasten the rear heat shield.
12. Install the back wheels and tighten the wheel studs.
- Tighten to: light alloy wheels 117 Nm (86.6 ft lb).
- Tighten to: pressed steel wheels 100 Nm (74 ft lb).
