Because the brakes are self-adjusting, it is impossible to tell from the brake pedal stroke whether the linings are worn. The lining thickness should be checked at specified intervals as outlined in "Vehicle
Maintenance Schedule section.
When vehicle is serviced, the brake pads must be replaced before lining thickness falls below 0.2 inches (5 mm).
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel.




2. Press piston back with suitable pliers (1), then remove clip from caliper (2).
3. Remove dust caps from guide pins, then the guide pins (3).
4. Lift brake caliper off brake disc and bind it in spring strut with tie.
5. Remove brake pads (4).
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Clean inside of brake caliper with soft metal brush and check dust covers.
b. Tighten guide brake caliper pins and wheel studs to specifications.
c. After lowering vehicle, press out brake pads by depressing brake pedal.
d. Check brake fluid and correct if necessary.
