Correcting Wind Noise from Windshield/A-Pillar
Application:
Certain 1994 900
If you should have a customer complain of an irritating wind noise from the windshield/A-pillar area at highway speeds, the steps outlined below should be followed to rectify this complaint.
Please make certain you follow all steps outlined for best results.
Cars Affected:
1994 900 up to and including VIN Serial No. R2006800
Parts:

or equivalent product
Insulation 96 56 901
Insulation, LH 44 94 951
Insulation, RH 44 94 969
Action:
1. Check that the sound insulation in the wheel housing is in place by loosening the front light cluster(s). Swing the cluster(s) out and look up into the wheel housing.
2. If the sound insulation is in place, refit the light cluster(s) and continue with "Procedure A" indicated.
3. If the sound insulation has become dislodged, put it back in place as follows. See Figure 1.:
a. Remove the wheel.
b. Remove the inner wheel housing.
c. Lift out the insulation.
d. Clean the edges.
e. Stick of length of butyl tape (P/N 30 18 165) along the edge of the insulation.
f. Fit the insulation in the wheel housing.
g. Refit the inner wheel housing, the wheel and the light cluster.
Procedure A
Secure the windshield trim molding to the roof by means of butyl tape as shown in Figure 2:
1. Remove the roof sealing from the A-pillar.
2. Remove the A-pillar trim molding.
3. Remove the trim molding from the windshield.
4. Clean the roof and the upper lip of the trim molding with Teroson Cleaner (or equivalent).
5. Stick butyl tape along the upper lip of the trim molding.
6. Fit the trim molding in place. Press the molding down so that the butyl tape sticks firmly to the roof and the lip of the trim molding.
Procedure B
Secure the A-pillar trim molding's weatherstrip to the windshield by means of butyl tape on both sides as shown in Figure 3-B.
7. Clean the A-pillar trim molding's weatherstrip and its surface that is in contact with the windshield using Teroson Cleaner (or equivalent).
8. Stick a length of butyl tape all the way along the Weatherstrip.
9. Fit the A-pillar trim molding back in place. Press the weatherstrip down against the windshield so that the butyl tape sticks firmly to both the weather seal and the glass. Do not refit the roof sealing molding.
Procedure C
Secure the roof sealing molding to the A-pillar by means of butyl tape on both sides.
10. Clean the roof sealing molding and its surface that is in contact with the A-pillar using Temson Cleaner (or equivalent).
11. Stick a length of butyl tape on the root sealing molding as shown in Figure 3-C.
12. Refit the roof sealing molding. Press it against the A-pillar so that the butyl tape sticks firmly to both the sealing molding and the A-pillar.
Procedure D
Windproof the door mirror base on both sides with sealing compound, P/N 30 20 716.
13. Remove the door mirror.
14. Use sealing compound to windproof the front end of the external window seal on the door.
15. Use sealing compound to windproof the front end of the external door frame sealing molding.
16. Apply a beading of sealing compound along the edge of the recess for the door mirror base on the door.
17. Use sealing compound to windproof the hole for the electric cable.
18. Refit the door mirror.
19. Do not refit the capping on the inside of the door yet.
Procedure E
Apply extra insulation, P/N 96 56 901, to the inside of the door by the door mirrors.
20. Check the existing insulation by the door mirror base on the inside of the door for damage. If it is damaged, fit new insulation, P/N " 94 951 (LH) or P/N 44 94 969 (RH).
21. Cut the extra insulation, P/N 96 56 901 to shape and make a slit for the electric cable. Then fit it in place as shown in Figure 4.
22. Refit the door capping.

Procedure D.
Failure Code = 84370-44-9-01-05.
Operation No. = 84370 for 0.2 hr.
Straight Time = 84199 for 0.4 hr.
Procedure E:
Failure Code = 84376-44-9-01-05.
Operation No. = 84376 for 0.1 hr.
Straight Time = 84199 for 0.4 hr. inspection.
A separate claim must be submitted for each procedure. Straight time 84199 may only be claimed once.
