Correcting Customer Complaint of Loosening Seat Upholstery
Application:
1994- 900 and 900 Convertible Models up to and including VIN Serial No. S2039380 and S7022621
Some customers may complain that the upholstery on their front seat(s) is pulling away from the seat. We have found that this may be caused by the cardboard strip on the seat upholstery cracking and causing the upholstery fabric to come away from the seat. Follow the directions below to add a reinforcement strip of plastic to correct the customer complaint.

1994- 900 and 900 Convertible models up to and including VIN Serial Nos. S2039380 and S7022621

Action:
1. Remove the seat from the car. See Service Manual Section 8:2, p. 852.
2. Remove the cowl from the side of the seat (only the front cowl on 3-door cars and Convertible).
3. Detach the lower part of the fabric from the frame.
If clips are fitted, discard them.
4. Stick fabric-backed tape on the metal frame to protect the foam cushion from chafing. See Figure 2, item 4.
5. Cover the sharp ends of the reinforcement strip with fabric-backed tape to protect the upholstery. See Figure 2, item 5.
Note
There are two versions of the cardboard strip: one is 2 mm thick and the other is 3 mm thick. On cars with a 2 mm cardboard strip, the mounting points on the seat frame should be bent inwards so that the strip is clamped securely in place.
6. Place reinforcement strip (Figure 2, item A) on the inside between the cardboard strip and the fabric. The patterned side should face the metal edge.
7. Fit the upholstery fabric, cowl and seat back in place.
