Checking the Boot Lid
Fault Symptoms
- The boot lid cannot be opened by the button in the driver's door.
- The SID displays "CLOSE TRUNK LID" even though it is closed.
- The hood can be operated even though the boot lid is open.
Diagnostic Procedure
1 The hood should be either up (closed) and latched to the windscreen frame or down (open). Connect an ISAT scan tool and read "LUGG. COMP. LOCK". "CONNECTED" should now be displayed on the scan tool. If "NOT CONNECTED" is displayed, the TSAS control module will not receive correct information from the microswitches. Read any diagnostic trouble codes with the ISAT scan tool and rectify the faults. If no diagnostic trouble codes have been stored, check the microswitches with the scan tool and rectify any mechanical faults.
2 If correct microswitch readings can be obtained with the ISAT scan tool, try opening the boot lid by means of the button in the driver's door. Check the boot lid latch motor if the boot lid cannot be opened. Also check the wiring harness between the motor and pin 18 (K20) of the TSAS control module for continuity/shorting. Check the switch in the door and the also check the wiring between pin 19 (K20) of the TSAS control module and pin 4 of the switch's connector for continuity.
3 Read "BOOT LID" with the ISAT Scan Tool. Open and close the boot lid and check that the Scan Tool displays the corresponding position.
4 Check that the switch is in proper working order and properly grounded to the car body in the open position. Change the switch if necessary. If this does not help, check the wiring between pin 7 (K42) of the TSAS control module and the boot lid switch.
