TRANSMISSION'S GEAR SHIFTING FUNCTION IS FAULTY

Fault symptom
Warning lamp CHECK GEARBOX lit. The system's emergency program is activated.

Conditions.
The speed of the car is >25 km/h and more than 5 seconds has passed since a shifting of gear. Deviation in rpm may then not be more that 3% and not last more than 1 second.

Diagnostic procedure
The Transmission Control Module (TCM) calculates the ratio between incoming and outgoing transmission rpm. For each gear there is a fixed ratio which is determined by the gear ratio. The fault is probably a mechanical fault. The fault can hardly occur because of a fault in the control system.

Wear in the transmission which results in hard gear shifting and a non-operating lock-up function.
