DIAGNOSTIC FAULT CODES PO13O, PO131, PO132
OXYGEN SENSOR, MALFUNCTIONING OR NOT WORKING AT ALL

Symptoms of fault
The malfunction indicator lamp is on.
Any other diagnostic trouble codes (pressure sensor).
Faults on the oxygen sensor rarely cause driveablity problems. On the other hand, other faults which lead to a DTC on the oxygen sensor can cause driveablity problems, depending on type.

Conditions.
The oxygen sensor indicates lean mixture/low voltage or rich mixture/high voltage for than 30 seconds.

Diagnostic procedure

IMPORTANT:
^ A DTC may be generated if the fuel tank is driven empty.
^ Contact spray or grease must not be used on the oxygen sensor's connector.

1. Check other diagnostic trouble codes in Trionic. Read out all DTCs with an ISAT scan tool.

- If P0105, P0106, P0107, P0108 is displayed, manifold absolute pressure sensor, start fault diagnosis there.

2. Check that there is no leak of air at the following places:

- The hose between the pressure sensor and the intake manifold.
- The hose between the fuel pressure regulator and the intake manifold.

DTC's P0130, P0131, P0132:

3. Check the oxygen sensor's mounting for corrosion.

- Measure the resistance between the frame of the oxygen sensor and a grounding point on the engine.
^ The resistance must be <0.5 Ohms.
- If the resistance is greater, unplug the oxygen sensor and clean the threads.

4. Check the operation of the pressure sensor using a pressure gauge and a pressure/vacuum pump.

- Ignition switched ON.
- Generate a positive pressure of 0.6 bar and a negative pressure of -0.6 bar.
- Connect an ISAT scan tool.

The ISAT scan tool must show 160 ± 5 kPa and 40 ± 5 kPa respectively in the "READ FUNCTIONS" menu and the "INTAKE PRESSURE" command (the ISAT scan tool may show slightly lower values when measuring at high altitude).

The measurement is intended to detect any shift in the operating range of the pressure sensor.

5. Then check:

- That the fuel pressure is correct.
- That the evaporative emission canister purge valve is not constantly open.
- That the fuel tank has not been driven dry.
- That air leakage does not occur in the exhaust system ahead of the oxygen sensor or at its mount.
- That the engine oil is not diluted with engine fuel.

DTC's P0130, P0131, P0132:

6. Check the electrical interface in the oxygen sensor's connector.

- Unplug the 4-pole connector.
- Replace the oxygen sensor with a conventional 1.5 V battery which is in good condition.
- Connect the + pole of the battery to pin 4 on the female connector.
- Connect the - pole of the battery to safe grounding point on the engine.
- Ignition switched ON.
- With the ISAT connected and with the "OXYGEN SENSOR" command on the "READ FUNCTIONS" menu, check the operation of the ECM including wiring as far as the oxygen sensor.
^ The ISAT must show approx. 1.4 V.

A discontinuity in the oxygen sensor's reference ground from grounding point G7S to pin 47 on the ECM leads to a value of approx. 0.5 V being shown on the ISAT.

- If the measured value is approx. 0.5 V, continue with step 7.
- If the measured value is approx. 1.4 V, continue with step 8.
- If the measured value is neither 0.5 V nor 1.4 V, continue with step 9.

7. Check the lead between G7S and pin 47 on the ECM for discontinuity or shorting.

DTC's P0130, P0131, P0132:

8. Connect oxygen sensor.

- Start the engine and leave it run until it has reached operating temperature.
- With an ISAT scan tool in the "READ FUNCTIONS" menu and the "OXYGEN SENSOR" command, read off the sensor voltage, which must fluctuate between approx. 0.1 V and approx. 0.9 V.
- If the measured value is incorrect, install a new oxygen sensor.
- If the measured value is correct, continue with step 10.

9. Check the lead between pin 4 on the oxygen sensor and pin 23 on the ECM for discontinuity and shorting.

10. Erase the diagnostic trouble code and drive the car to see whether the DTC is generated again.

- If the diagnostic trouble code is registered, continue at "Procedure before replacing ECM".
- If the diagnostic trouble code is not registered, the action taken is correct. Otherwise the fault is intermittent in nature.
