Internal control module fault

Fault Symptom

The hood cannot be operated.

Condition

This diagnostic trouble code can be generated for several reasons and need not always mean that control module replacement is necessary. Most of the faults are due to external component defects or faults in the wiring harness. The only known control module faults are when a short circuit in a component or the wiring has burnt out the drive circuits for the main motors, fifth bow motors, fifth bow latch motors and tonneau cover motor, with the result that the control module is no longer in working order. One of the faults caused by external components which does not necessitate replacement of the control module is a short circuit to battery positive (batt+) or ground on pin 22 (K42) or 23 (K42), which supply power to the microswitches.

Diagnostic Procedure

1 Clear the trouble code and check that it is not generated afresh. Also check other diagnostic trouble codes and rectify them as necessary.

2 Connect an ISAT Scan Tool and read "HEADER LATCH". If this shows "LH REF. V WRONG", the microswitches are at fault. Check the wiring harness between pins 22 (k42) and 23 (K42) of the control module and all eight microswitches for shorting to ground or battery positive (Batt+).

3 Remove the control module. Unplug the connector and inspect it for pin slide-out. Check that the control module's ground connection and power supply are OK.

4 Change the control module.
