B1178
Hood stowage bag microswitch, open circuit.
Fault symptom
The hood can be operated even though the hood stowage bag is not in its lower position.
Condition
Open circuit on pin 27 (K42) or 41 (K42).
Diagnostic Procedure
1 Connect an ISAT Scan Tool and read "HOOD BAG". Lift up the hood stowage bag to test both states of the microswitch (actuated/unactuated). Clear the trouble code if the Scan Tool shows correct readings. Check that the code is not generated afresh.
2 Unplug the defective microswitch's connector and connect jumper leads as follows:
- between pins 2 and 3 for actuated microswitch
- between pins 2 and 1 for unactuated microswitch.
Check at the same time that the microswitch readings on the ISAT Scan Tool change. If the scan tool shows correct readings the microswitch is defective. Change the microswitch.
3 Connect a BOB and check the wiring harness for continuity between pin 2 of the microswitch connector and pin 27 (K42) of the control module for the left-hand microswitch and pin 41 (K42) for the right-hand microswitch.
