B1173
Header latch microswitch, open circuit
Fault Symptom
"CHECK HEADER LATCHES" is displayed on the SID when the hood is raised and vehicle speed is >0 km/h.
Condition
Open circuit on pin 24 (K42) or 38 (K42).
Diagnostic Procedure
1 Connect an ISAT Scan Tool and read "HEADER LATCH". Operate the hood so that both states of the microswitches (actuated/unactuated) are tested. If the Scan Tool shows correct readings, clear the trouble code and check that it is not generated afresh.
2 Unplug the defective microswitch's connector and connect jumper leads as follows:
- between pins 2 and 3 for actuated microswitch
- between pins 2 and 1 for unactuated microswitch.
Check at the same time that the microswitch readings on the ISAT Scan Tool change. If the Scan Tool shows correct readings the microswitch is defective. Change the microswitch.
3 Connect a BOB and check the wiring harness for continuity between pin 2 of the microswitch connector and pin 24 (K42) of the control module for the left-hand microswitch and pin 38 (K42) for the right-hand microswitch.
