Engine Control Module: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Motronic electronic fuel injection/ignition ECM controls:
^ Fuel Injection
^ Ignition
^ Idle speed
^ Turbocharger boost pressure
^ EVAP System

OPERATION
The ECM uses a microprocessor to convert input signals into the necessary output functions.

The ECM also incorporates on-board diagnostics (OBD) to monitor system operation.

The ECM incorporates "self-learning" (adaptive) functions which allow it to adjust output functions for various operating conditions.
