Tie Rod Boot: Service and Repair




Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the outer tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (Service and Repair).




2. Remove the boot clamp (2).




3. Remove the boot clamp (2).
4. Remove the boot from the inner tie rod.

Installation Procedure

1. Verify the steering rack does not have grease or foreign material in the ventilation hole.




2. Install the boot to the groove in the steering gear (3).
3. Install the boot clamp (2) in order to retain the boot to the gear.
4. Verify the boot is not twisted, dented, or improperly folded.




5. Install the boot clamp (2) in order to retain the boot to the inner tie rod.
6. Install the outer tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (Service and Repair).
