Thermostat: Service and Repair




Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement (2.4L)

Removal Procedure

1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Service and Repair).
2. Disconnect the radiator hose.




3. Remove the 2 nuts (1, 2) and disconnect the water inlet from the cylinder block.
4. Remove the thermostat and gasket.

Installation Procedure

1. Install a new gasket onto the thermostat.





Note: The jiggle valve may be set to within 10 degrees on either side of the indicated position.

2. Install the thermostat with the jiggle valve (1) upward.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the water inlet with the 2 nuts (1, 2) and tighten to 9.0 Nm (80 lb in).
4. Connect the radiator hose.
5. Add the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Service and Repair)
6. Inspect for coolant leaks.
7. Inspect the reservoir tank engine coolant level. Refer to Cooling System Leak Testing (Component Tests and General Diagnostics).
