MVA 4 Speed - Automatic Transmission
Transmission Control Replacement
1. Remove the front floor console assembly. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Service and Repair)
2. Move the shift lever to N.
3. Disconnect the end of the transmission control cable assembly (1) from the shift lever assembly.
Note: Do not remove the stopper. If the stopper is removed, reinstall it to its original position.
4. Pull out the stopper of the transmission control cable.
Note: Do not over-rotate the nut as it will come off the internal spring and the transmission control cable will not be reusable.
5. Rotate the nut counterclockwise approximately 180 degrees, while holding the nut in that position, disconnect the transmission control cable from the shift lever retainer.
6. Disconnect the connectors (1, 2) and clamps from the shift lever assembly.
7. Remove the nuts (1-4) and shift lever assembly.
8. Remove the position indicator light housing.
9. Disengage the claws and remove the position indicator light housing from the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly.
10. Separate the position indicator light wire (1) socket and connector from the position indicator light housing.
11. Remove the bulb and cap from the indicator light wire socket.
12. Disengage the claws and the shift lock release button and shift lock release button compression spring from the position indicator light housing.
13. Disengage the claws and remove the upper position indicator housing from the shift lever assembly.
14. Remove the position indicator slide cover from the shift lever assembly.
15. Remove the No. 2 position indicator slide cover (1) from the position indicator slide cover.
16. Remove the lower position indicator housing.
17. Disengage the claws and remove the lower position indicator housing from the shift lever assembly.
Installation Procedure
1. Engage the claws and install the lower position indicator housing to the shift lever assembly.
2. Install the No. 2 position indicator slide cover (1) to the position indicator slide cover.
3. Install the position indicator slide cover to the shift lever assembly.
4. Engage the claws and install the upper position indicator housing to the shift lever assembly.
5. Engage the claws and install the shift lock release button compression spring and shift lock release button to the position indicator light housing.
6. Install the cap to the bulb.
7. Install the bulb to the position indicator light wire socket.
8. Install the position indicator light wire (1) socket and connector to the position indicator light housing.
9. Engage the claws and install the position indicator light housing to the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
Note: Check that the park/neutral position switch and the shift lever are in neutral.
10. Install the shift lever assembly with the nuts (1-4) and tighten to 12 Nm (106 ft in).
11. Connect the connectors (1, 2) and clamps to the shift lever assembly.
12. Install the transmission control cable assembly.
13. Turn the nut (2) of the transmission control cable 180 degrees counterclockwise. While holding the nut in place, push in the stopper until it clicks twice.
Note: If the stopper (1) cannot be pushed in, slightly turn the nut clockwise and then push in the stopper again.
14. Install the outer part of the transmission control cable to the shift lever retainer. Check that the spring is positioned properly and push in the stopper.
15. Push the claws (1) together at the top of the transmission control cable lock piece. While holding the claws together, push the lugs on the bottom of the lock piece toward each other and upward to pull out the lock piece.
16. Check that the lock piece (1) is pulled up.
Install the cable end all the way to the base of the pin.
Note: Securely push in the lock piece until it locks.
17. Push the lock piece (1) into the adjuster case (2).
18. Install the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Service and Repair)
