Direct Clutch Assembly Installation

Direct Clutch Assembly Installation

Note: The disc in the direct clutch should completely mate with the hub attached outside the rear sun gear. Otherwise, the rear cover cannot be installed.

1. Install the direct clutch assembly and thrust bearing to the rear sun gear.

2. Clean the contact area of the transaxle case and rear cover.
3. Place a straightedge on the direct clutch housing and measure the distance between the transaxle case and the straightedge using a vernier caliper (Dimension B).

4. Measure two places on the rear cover. Calculate dimension C using the following formula:
Dimension C = Dimension A - Dimension B

Note: Make sure that the colored race side is facing the direct clutch assembly.

5. Calculate the end play value using the following formula:
End play = Dimension C - Dimension B

End play - 0.198-0.936 mm (0.0078-0.0368 in)

6. Select a thrust bearing which satisfies the end play value and install it.

* Standard bearing thickness 3.58 mm (0.1409 in), inside diameter - 53.6 mm (2.110 in)
* Standard bearing thickness 3.58 mm (0.1409 in), outside diameter - 69.6 mm (2.740 in)
* Standard bearing thickness 3.88 mm (0.1528 in), inside diameter - 53.6 mm (2.110 in)
* Standard bearing thickness 3.88 mm (0.1528 in), outside diameter - 70.18 mm (2.768 in)

7. Install new fluid passage gaskets (1, 2).

8. Install the clamp to the direct clutch apply pipe.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

9. Install the direct clutch apply pipes to the transaxle with the bolt and tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb in).
