Programming and Relearning
Immobilizer System Component Programming
Note: Vehicles equipped with RPO UA6 will have vehicle Immobilizer combined with Theft Deterrent. Vehicles equipped with RPO BAE will have vehicle Immobilizer with or without Theft Deterrent.
If all keys are lost or stolen, it will be necessary to replace the theft deterrent key transponder.
Adding Additional Keys
This procedure will learn an additional vehicle key to the vehicle using the scan tool. Up to 5 vehicle keys may be learned to a single vehicle. The learn procedure will exit if the steps are not completed in the specified time.
If the ignition cylinder is replaced, remove the transmitter from the original master key and install onto a new key. Use this as the master key.
1. Turn the ignition ON with an currently learned master key.
2. Within 120 seconds of turning the ignition ON, using a scan tool, select Programming Additional Keys. The security indicator will now be illuminated.
3. Within 20 seconds of selecting Programming Additional Keys, remove the master key from the ignition. The security indicator will remain illuminated.
4. Within 10 seconds of removing the master key, insert the key to be learned. The security indicator will flash. After 60 seconds, the key will be learned and the security indicator will not be illuminated.
5. If additional keys are required to be learned, repeat steps 1 thru 4.
Erasing Key Codes
This procedure will erase all known vehicle key codes except for the code of the vehicle key being used to perform the procedure. An example of when this would be required is if a key has been lost or stolen. The key codes may be erased making them unable to start the vehicle. After the key codes have been erased, any existing keys may be learned using the Adding Additional Master Keys or Sub Keys procedure above.
1. Turn the ignition ON with an already learned master key.
2. With a scan tool, select Erase Transponder-Keys. The security indicator will be briefly illuminated.
3. Within 10 seconds of the scan tool instruction, turn OFF the ignition and remove the key.
4. At this point, all vehicle key codes are erased except for the key just removed.
Replacing the Theft Deterrent Key Transponder
When the theft deterrent key transponder is replaced, the ECU communication ID of the powertrain control module (PCM) must be registered to the new theft deterrent key transponder. Engine starting will be disabled if the ECU communication IDs do not match.
Note:
* If the theft deterrent transponder key has been replaced, do not turn cycle the ignition more than 20 times before registering the ECU communication ID. Cycling the key more than 20 times will result in a locked theft deterrent transponder key.
* After the ECU communication ID has been registered, the vehicle may not start on the next attempt. Cycle the ignition and try a second time.
1. Ignition ON with a currently learned master key
2. Access Service Programming System (SPS). On the Select Diagnostic Tool and Programming Process screen, select J2534 Tech 2. Follow all on-screen instructions.
3. On the SPS Supported Controllers screen, select IMMO-Vehicle Immobilizer Key Learn (J2534). Follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Clear all codes and cycle the ignition OFF for at least 30 seconds.
5. Remove the scan tool and install a 3 A fused jumper wire between terminal 4 and terminal 13 at the DLC.
6. Ignition ON for 30 minutes.
7. After the 30 minute time period has elapsed, disconnect the jumper wire.
8. Start the vehicle and verify that the Security Light is not illuminated.
9. Clear all codes.
