7. High and Low Speed Gearshift Shafts
Removal Procedure1. Use a standard drift punch and a hammer in order to remove the roll pin and the low speed gearshift fork (3) from the low speed gear shift shaft.
2. use a standard drift punch and hammer in order to remove the following components from the low speed gear shift shaft:
2.1. One roll pin
2.2. The low speed gearshift yoke
3. Use a standard drift punch and a hammer in order to remove the following components from the high speed gear shift shaft:
3.1. One roll pin
3.2. The high speed gearshift fork
4. Use a standard drift punch and a hammer in order to remove the following components from the high speed gear shift shaft.
4.1. One roll pin
4.2. The high speed gearshift yoke
5. Clean all the components thoroughly with a clean solvent.
6. Inspect the high and low speed gearshift shafts for the following conditions. Replace as necessary:
^ Flat spots
^ Excessive wear
^ Damage
7. Inspect the contact surfaces of the high and low speed gearshift forks for the following conditions. Replace as necessary:
^ Excessive wear
^ Cracks
^ Other damage
8. Use a feeler gage in order to measure the high speed and low speed gearshift fork-to-synchronizer sleeve clearance.
^ Match each shift fork to its synchronizer sleeve.
^ Measure the clearance.
^ If the gearshift fork-to-synchronizer sleeve clearance is more than 1.0 mm (0.039 inch), replace the gearshift and synchronizer sleeve.
