Wheel Stud Replacement (Hub Design With ABS)

Removal Procedure

^ Tool Required
- J 6627-A Stud Remover

Caution: If one stud is damaged, replace all the studs. A loose-running wheel may cause only one stud to break, but the other studs could have internal fatigue. Replacing only the broken stud and remounting the wheel may cause further damage and personal injury. If the stud holes in the wheels have become enlarged or distorted, replace the wheel.





1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
3. Remove the 2 recessed screws and the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement (Hub Design with ABS) in Brakes and Traction Control.
4. Install 2 wheel nuts to 2 studs.
5. Use a pry bar between the 2 wheel nuts in order to prevent the hub from turning.
6. Remove the wheel stud using J 6627-A.

Installation Procedure





1. Install 2 wheel nuts to 2 studs.
2. Use a pry bar between the 2 wheel nuts in order to prevent the hub from turning.
3. Install a new stud to the hub.
4. Install washers onto the new stud.
5. Use a wrench and a wheel nut in order to install the stud to the hub.
6. Remove the wheel nut and the washers.
7. Install the brake drum. Secure the brake drum with the two recessed screws. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement (Hub Design with ABS) in Brakes and Traction Control.
8. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
9. Lower the vehicle.
