Foaming Milky-Appearing Power Steering Fluid
Air in the fluid and the loss of the fluid due to internal pump leakage causing an overflow can cause the following conditions:- Foaming
- Milky power steering fluid
- Low fluid level
- Possible low pressure
Inspect for leaks and the correct fluid level. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid. Bleed the system. Refer to Bleeding Power Steering System.
Extremely cold temperatures will cause air bubbles in the system if the fluid level is low. If the following conditions exist, remove the pump from the vehicle and inspect the pump housing for cracks:
- The fluid level is correct
- The fluid still foams
If you find a crack in the housing, replace the pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement.
