Installation Procedure
1. Ensure that the front tires are in the straight-ahead position.
2. If necessary, center the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Coil Centering - Off Vehicle.
3. If you are replacing the steering wheel, copy the alignment mark (1) from the old steering wheel to the new steering wheel.
Notice: When installing the steering wheel, ensure that the 2 tabs on the SIR coil align with the 2 slots on the steering wheel mounting surface. Failure to align the tabs may cause incorrect alignment of some components during installation. This may damage the SIR coil.
4. Install the steering wheel to the steering shaft. Fit the 2 tabs on the SIR coil into the 2 slots on the steering wheel mounting surface. Align the mark on the steering wheel (1) with the mark on the steering shaft (2).
5. Ensure that the steering wheel and the front tires are in the straight-ahead position.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
6. Install the nut in order to retain the steering wheel to the steering shaft.
- Tighten the nut to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
8. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
