Compressor Shaft Seal: Service and Repair
Compressor Shaft Seal ReplacementREMOVAL PROCEDURE
TOOLS REQUIRED
J 33942-B Compressor Shaft Seal Remover/Installer
IMPORTANT
^ Discharge and recover the A/C system refrigerant, and remove the compressor from the vehicle, before performing compressor repairs.
^ During service of the compressor, prevent dirt and other foreign material from getting on the compressor parts and into the system. Clean tools and a clean work area are essential for proper service. Keep the compressor and the parts clean at all times.
^ Clean all parts that you will reassemble with a suitable solvent, and air-dry the parts.
^ Use only lint-free cloths in order to wipe the parts.
^ Drain and discard the oil that remains in the compressor. Add 90 ml (3.0 fl oz) of new refrigerant oil when the repairs are complete.
1. Remove the compressor from the vehicle.
2. Remove the clutch assembly.
3. Remove the oil felt and the retainer from the compressor drive shaft bore using a flat screwdriver.
4. Remove the key from the drive shaft.
5. Remove the seal snap ring (1) using snap ring pliers.
6. Insert the J 33942-B into the seal.
7. Turn the J 33942-B until the tool makes contact with the seal notches.
8. Pull the seal away from the compressor. Discard the seal.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
TOOLS REQUIRED
^ J 33942-B Compressor Shaft Seal Remover/Installer
^ J 34614 Compressor Shaft Seal Protector
1. Slide the J 34614 onto the compressor drive shaft.
2. Lubricate the new seal with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
3. Engage the J 33942-B to the seal notches.
4. Slide the seal (1) onto the compressor drive shaft.
5. Install the new seal snap ring using snap ring pliers.
6. Install the key into the drive shaft groove.
7. Install the new Oil felt and the retainer inside the bore.
8. Install the clutch assembly.
9. Install the compressor to the vehicle.
