Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





4. Remove the six clips and the right side splash shield (1).
5. Remove the two bolts and the lower generator cover plate.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Loosen the adjusting bolt on the upper generator mounting bracket, and remove the coolant pump drive belt and/or the generator drive belt from the vehicle.

Important: Do not loosen the crankshaft timing gear bolt (2) at the center of the crankshaft pulley.





8. Remove the five crankshaft pulley bolts (3) and the crankshaft pulley (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the crankshaft pulley (1). Fit the pin hole on the pulley to the dowel pin on the crankshaft timing gear

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Secure the crankshaft pulley with the five crankshaft pulley bolts (3).
Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolts (3) to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the accessory drive belt to the following components:
^ The crankshaft
^ The coolant pump
^ The generator
4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
5. Install the generator cover plate. Secure the generator cover plate with two bolts.
Tighten the generator cover bolts to 5.5 Nm (49 inch lbs.).





6. Install the right side splash shield (1).
7. Secure the splash shield with the six clips.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Adjust the accessory drive belt tension to specifications.
10. Tighten the adjustment bolt.
Tighten the upper generator adjustment bolt to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
11. Install the air cleaner assembly.
12. Install the negative battery cable.
