Thermostat Housing: Service and Repair
Removal ProcedureCaution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
3. Release the hose clamp in order to remove the upper radiator hose at the thermostat housing cap.
4. Remove the two retaining bolts in order to remove the water outlet (3) from the housing (1).
5. Remove the thermostat (2) and the O-ring from the thermostat housing.
6. Remove the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (3).
7. Remove the two bolts in order to remove the thermostat housing and gasket from the cylinder head.
Installation Procedure
1. Connect the thermostat housing and the new gasket to the cylinder head (4).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Secure the housing with two bolts.
Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (3).
4. Install the thermostat and a new gasket to the thermostat housing (2).
5. Install the water outlet to the housing.
6. Secure the water outlet with two retaining bolts.
Tighten the water outlet retaining bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing cap.
8. Secure the hose with a hose clamp.
9. Refill the engine cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
