Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Clean the outside of the reservoir.
3. Disconnect the fluid level switch electrical connector.
4. Remove the reservoir cap.
5. Siphon the fluid from the reservoir.
6. Remove the reservoir pin (3) using a hammer and a punch.





7. Remove the reservoir (2) and the grommets (3) from the master cylinder (5).

Installation Procedure

Caution: Use only Delco Supreme II (GM P/N# 12377967) or equivalent DOT 3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed container. Do not use fluid from an open container that may be contaminated with water. Improper or contaminated fluid could result in damage to components, or loss of braking, with possible injury.





1. Install the new reservoir grommets (3) into the master cylinder (5). Ensure that the grommets are seated properly.
2. Lubricate the grommets with new, clean brake fluid.
3. Install the reservoir (2) to the master cylinder (5).
4. Install the reservoir pin (4) using a hammer and a punch.
5. Connect the fluid level switch electrical connector.
6. Refill the reservoir with brake fluid GM P/N 12377967, or equivalent. Refer to Brake Fluid Reservoir.
7. Inspect for fluid leakage.
8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement.
9. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Brake Bleeding.
