Brake Drum Replacement (Hub Design With ABS)

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
3. Remove the 2 screws (2) which are securing the drum (1).
4. Release the parking brake.
5. Remove the backing plate plug.





6. Insert a screwdriver into the backing plate plug until it contacts the shoe lever stopper.
7. Push the screwdriver in the direction of the arrow.





8. Insert two 8 mm (0.3 in) bolts (1) into the drum.
9. Tighten the 2 bolts in order to remove the drum from the hub.
10. Inspect the brake drum. Replace the drum if necessary. Refer to Brake Drum Inspection.
11. Inspect the brake components. Replace the components if any of the following conditions exist:
- Wear
- Distortion
- Cracks
- Corrosion

Installation Procedure





1. Put a flat screwdriver between the rod and the ratchet. Push down on the ratchet to maximize the lining-to-drum clearance.





2. Move the brake shoe stopper back to its original position.
3. Install the drum.
4. Secure the drum with two screws.
5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Press the brake pedal three to five times with about 30 kg (66 lb) of pressure in order to obtain proper drum-to-shoe clearance.
