Disabling the SIR System


IMPORTANT: Perform this procedure in order to prevent deployment of the air bags from the reserve energy supply power.




1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

IMPORTANT: With the AIR BAG Fuse removed and the ignition switch in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning lamp illuminates. This is a normal operation and does not indicate a SIR system malfunction.

3. Remove the AIR BAG Fuse from the junction block (3), which is located near the base of the steering column.




4. Remove the following parts:
^ The steering wheel side cap
^ The connector clip (2)
^ The yellow 2-way connector (1) for the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
Release then unlock the yellow 2-way connector (1).




5. Pull out the IP compartment (2) while pushing in the RH and LH stoppers.
6. Remove the yellow connector (1) for the inflatable restraint IP module from the IP opening.




7. Release then unlock the yellow connector (1).
