Cleaning Intervals
After every 15 hours of operation, clean the cassette player for optimum performance.Clean the cassette player at least every 50 hours of playing time. This will prevent damage to the cassette player mechanism. The radio may display CLN, CLEAN, or CLEAN TAPE, depending on the type of radio. This will occur only if the radio is equipped with the clean tape indicator feature. This indicates that you have used the cassette player for 50 hours without resetting the tape clean timer. If this message appears on the display, clean the cassette player. The cassette player will play tapes, but clean the cassette player as soon as possible. This will prevent damage to the tapes or to the cassette player.
Cassettes may wear, and the sound quality may degrade over time. If you notice a reduction in sound quality, play a different cassette. A new cassette may indicate whether the tape or the cassette player has caused the condition.
If the sound quality does not improve when you play the second tape, clean the cassette player. Even if the last cleaning was recent, clean the cassette player.
If a noticeable improvement is not achieved after cleaning the cassette player, remove the radio for repair.
