Fluid Checking Procedure - M42/M58 Transmissions

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





2. Remove the transaxle oil level/filler plug (1) from the transaxle.
3. Inspect the transaxle oil level. The oil level should be even with the bottom of the transaxle oil level/filler plug hole.
4. If the oil level is low, adjust the oil level accordingly by adding Castrol(R) Syntorq Transmission Fluid GM P/N 12346190 or the equivalent.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the transaxle oil level/filler plug into the transaxle after applying GM P/N 12346004, or the equivalent, in order to seal the threads.
Tighten the transaxle oil level/filler plug to 21 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
6. Lower the vehicle.
