Speedometer Gear, M/T: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J 34839 Pinion Bearing Remover
- J 37764 Slide Hammer Adapter
- J 23907 Slide Hammer

1. Slide the speedometer driven gear case boot up the speedometer cable.
2. Slide the speedometer driven gear case boot off the speedometer driven gear case.





3. Remove the following components from the speedometer driven gear case (2):
^ The speedometer cable retaining clip (7)
^ The speedometer cable
4. Remove the following components from the transaxle:
4.1. The speedometer driven gear case retaining bolt (1)
4.2. The speedometer driven gear case (2)
5. Use a standard drift punch in order to remove the speedometer driven gear case roll pin (6) from the speedometer driven gear case (2).
6. Remove the speedometer driven gear (5) from the speedometer driven gear case (2).
7. Remove the speedometer driven gear case O-ring (4) from the speedometer driven gear case (2).





8. Use the following tools in order to remove the speedometer driven gear case lip seal from inside of the speedometer driven gear case (1):
^ J 34839
^ J 37764
^ J 23907
9. Inspect the speedometer driven gear for excessive wear or damage.
10. Inspect the speedometer driven gear case O-ring for cuts or damage.

Installation Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J 34857 Gearshift Shaft Seal Installer
- J 36850 Transjel(R) Transmission Assembly Lubricant

1. Apply J 36850 to the new speedometer driven gear lip seal.





2. Use the J 34857 in order to install the new speedometer driven gear lip seal (2) into the speedometer driven gear case (1).





3. Install the speedometer driven gear case O-ring (4) onto the speedometer driven gear case (2).
4. Apply J 36850 to the speedometer driven gear case O-ring (4).
5. Install the speedometer driven gear (5) into the speedometer driven gear case (2).
6. Use a standard drift punch in order to install the speedometer driven gear case roll pin (6) into the speedometer driven gear (5).





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

7. Install the speedometer driven gear case into the transaxle. Use the speedometer driven gear case (1) retaining bolt in order to secure the speedometer driven gear case.
Tighten the speedometer driven gear case retaining bolt (2) to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).
8. Install the speedometer cable into the speedometer driven gear case. Use the speedometer cable retaining clip in order to secure the speedometer cable.
9. Slide the speedometer driven gear case boot down the speedometer cable.
10. Slide the speedometer driven gear case boot over the speedometer driven gear case.
