Instrument Panel (IP) - Assembly Replacement

Instrument Panel Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.

2. Disable the SIR system.
3. Pull out the instrument panel compartment (5) while pushing the stopper from both the left and the right sides.
4. Remove the instrument panel compartment (5) by removing 2 screws.
5. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM):
5.1. Remove 3 bolts.
5.2. Disconnect 3 electrical connectors.




6. For vehicles with manual transaxle, remove the gearshift control lever upper boot (2) from the console (3).
7. Remove the console (3) from the vehicle by removing 6 screws.
8. Remove the IP center trim bezel.




9. Remove the cup holder (8) by removing 2 screws.




10. Remove the radio:
10.1. Remove 5 screws (1).
10.2. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
11. Remove the heater control unit.
12. Separate the hood latch release handle by removing 2 screws.
13. Remove the steering column.
14. Remove the instrument cluster.
15. Remove the passenger inflator module.
16. Disconnect the following electrical connectors from the right side of the instrument panel:
^ The A/C amplifier (if equipped)
^ The A/C amplifier thermistor (if equipped)
^ The blower motor and the blower motor resistor
^ The connector C205
^ The dome light
^ The door speaker (if equipped)
17. Disconnect the following electrical connectors from the left side of the instrument panel:
^ The door speaker (if equipped)
^ The junction block electrical connectors
^ The main harness electrical connector (C200)
18. Remove the antenna cable holddown loops.
19. Unclip and remove the left and the right windshield side garnish moldings.




20. Remove the following 7 bolts (2) that secure the instrument panel center brace (3):
^ 2 bolts located on each door jam area
^ 2 bolts located at the bottom center of the instrument panel near the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM)
^ 1 bolt near the steering column mounting area
21. Remove the following components:
^ 1 cover
^ 1 screw (2)
^ The upper center of the instrument panel
22. Remove the following components:
^ 2 screws
^ The lower left and the right corners of the instrument panel (1)
23. Remove the instrument panel (1) from the vehicle.
24. Transfer parts from the instrument panel (1) as necessary.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Position the instrument panel (1) in the vehicle. Secure the instrument panel with the 3 screws.
2. Replace the upper center cover.
3. Install the instrument panel center brace (3). Secure the center brace with the 7 bolts (2).

Tighten
Tighten the IP center brace bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

4. Install the left and the right windshield side garnish moldings.
5. Install the antenna cable through the holddown loops.
6. Connect all of the instrument panel electrical connectors.
7. Install the passenger inflator module.
8. Install the instrument cluster.




9. Install the steering column.
10. Install the hood latch release handle. Secure the hood latch release handle with the 2 screws.
11. Install the heater control unit.
12. Connect the 2 radio electrical connectors.
13. Install the radio to the instrument panel. Secure the radio with the 5 screws (1).




14. Install the cup holder (8). Secure the cup holder with the 2 screws.




15. Connect the cigar lighter electrical connector.
16. Install the center console trim bezel (3). Secure the trim bezel with the 4 screws.




17. Install the console (3). Secure the console with the 6 screws.
18. For vehicles with a manual transaxle, install the gearshift control lever upper boot (2) to the console (3).
19. Connect 3 PCM electrical connectors to the PCM.
20. Install the PCM to the vehicle. Secure the PCM with the 3 bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the powertrain control module bolts to 6 N.m (53 N.m lb in).




21. Install the instrument panel compartment (5). Secure the instrument panel compartment with the 2 screws.
22. Enable the SIR system.
23. Connect the negative battery cable.
