DTC 71

DTC 71 Right Front EMB Circuit Open Or Shorted To Ground:

DTC 71 Right Front EMB Circuit Open Or Shorted To Ground:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
This DTC is designed to detect shorts to ground and opens in the EMB release circuit.

A short to ground between the EMB and the ABS EBCM will cause the EMB to be energized indefinitely at an uncontrolled current causing the EMB to be destroyed.

FAILURE CONDITION
DTC A071 can be set only when the right front EMB is commanded "OFF" (not released). If the EBCM detects the right front EMB control circuit is constantly at ground, a malfunction exists.

ACTION TAKEN
5GA malfunction DTC is stored, ABS is disabled and the ABS indicator lamp is turned "ON."

TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. This step checks for a short to ground in the EMB control circuitry.
2. This step looks for an open in the EMB control circuitry.
3. This step checks to see if CKT 850 has continuity to the EMB connector.
4. This step ensures the EMB is not internally open.
5. This step is used to release the tension of the motor pack prior to removal.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An "Intermittent" malfunction may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a wire that is broken inside the insulation.

The frequency of the malfunction can be checked by using the enhanced diagnostic function of the Tech 1.

Any circuitry, that is suspected as causing the intermittent complaint, should be thoroughly checked for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wiring connections or physical damage to the wiring harness.
