Aftermarket A/C - Installation

NO: 24-01-94

GROUP: Heater & A/C

DATE: Jan. 14, 1994

SUBJECT:
Installation of Non-Factory Air Conditioning

MODELS:

1995 (PL) Neon

DISCUSSION:

The base Neon built without air conditioning, does not contain the necessary components to add dealer installed air conditioning. Mopar Parts will not produce an accessory air conditioning kit.

The base vehicle would require the following upgrades to provide a quality air conditioning system.

^ Tinted glass, which is not available on the base Neon.

^ The radiator, shroud, fan and motor would have to be upgraded.

^ Installation of a spacer on the right front suspension strut, requiring the right front suspension system to be disassembled.

^ The base Neon "heater only" wiring gauge specification is not adequate for air conditioning use and would require a complete stand alone wiring harness. Upgrading this wiring would require extensive vehicle disassembly, including removal of the instrument panel assembly and passenger airbag. This process has high risk of introducing squeaks and rattles into the vehicle.

Any deviation from these requirements, either by Mopar or the aftermarket, will produce an air conditioning kit that will not meet customer expectations for vehicle performance.
